Divers to search in Baltimore until around 10pm tonight

The land and sea search operation is for missing local Barry Davis Ryan.

Dives are set to continue in Baltimore until around 10pm tonight in the search for missing student Barry Davis Ryan.

Up to 160 divers and volunteers are taking part in the land and sea operation following an appeal for experienced divers to assist in the search.

Divers took to the water from 5am this morning in a fresh bid to find the 20-year-old but the weather is set to worsen tonight and it's expected they won't be able to dive again until next week.

The missing local is believed to have drowned as he attempted to save his girlfriend Niamh O'Connor who was swept into the sea by a rogue wave.

His father Barry Ryan also drowned in the incident.

The search operation is focused around the Beacon while the land search is being conducted in the general area around Baltimore and Cape Clear.

Speaking to RedFM News, John Kearney from the West Cork Underwater Search and Rescue Team says this evenings searches are crucial.
