Drink Driving arrests on the increase

Sixteen hundred people have now been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving so far this year - a 12% increase on 2016.

The figures from the Gardaí come as the Road Safety Authority says one third of fatalities from road crashes had consumed alcohol. 

A major crackdown's now underway ahead of St. Patrick's festivities and motorists are being warned to watch their speed and drink and drive 

Assistant Commissioner Michael Finn is hoping people are getting the message about drink driving
