€60 fine for those driving on Patrick St when ban comes into effect

A €60 fine will be imposed on any private car caught driving on Patrick St once a ban comes into effect next week. 

From next Tuesday between 3pm and 6.30pm the only traffic allowed on the street will be public transport, taxis, cyclists and emergency vehicles. 

The new traffic arrangements are part of a programme of work that has been ongoing for the last 10 months.

Some traders have been critical of the new measures however Cork City Council say the move is designed to facilitate the prioritisation of bus movements on Patrick Street and encourage public transport. 

Speaking to RedFM News Cheif Executive of Cork City Council Ann Doherty says people need to be encouraged to use public transport and the reliance on cars needs to change to propel the city to further success:
