East Cork town braces for future storms

Plans afoot to ensure safe access to Cobh for residents.

Residents were unable to access or exit the town for a period of time during Storm Ophelia as fallen trees had blocked the main road.

The cross river ferry and rail services were also suspended.

Cork County Council, gardaí and the owners of Fota estate are discussing the possibility of using a private road, which runs through the Fota estate, if the main road becomes impassible again due to stormy weather.

Speaking to RedFM News Fine Gael Councillor Anthony Barry says measures need to be taken to make access to the town much safer in the future.
