EmbraceFARM: Behind Every Farm Death Statistic Is A Real Person

That's according to the co-founder of EmbraceFARM, a charity which provides supports for those impacted by farm accidents

Farming remains one of the most dangerous sectors in Ireland with 210 fatalities due to farm related accidents between 2011 and 2020.

The charity is holding it's annual Remembrance Service on Sunday, 27th June, and are appealing to those who would like their loved one to be named and remembered in the service to contact them.

Due to the pandemic, this year will be the second year in a row that the ecumenical service will be held remotely and streamed online.

Speaking to RedFM News, Norma Rohan, co-founder of EmbraceFARM says that grieving families welcome the opportunity to acknowledge their late loved one.

"The whole reason for it, is to acknowlege all those who have died in farm accidents, on our farms, around the country. Each year the Health and Safety Authority will issue the numbers of people who have died but behind each one of them numbers is a person: a dad, or granddad, a child, sometimes a mam. We do a roll call of names to remember those named."
