Ex-Debenhams Employees Confident End Is In Sight In Their Battle For Improved Redundancy Payments
Representatives from the Mandate trade union and shop stewards from the Cork, Dublin and Waterford stores held a virtual meeting with the Taoiseach this morning,
224 days since they began blockading their former workplaces.
Micheál Martin will now discuss the issue with a senior un-named member of the government and will meet with the union and shop stewards again early next week.
It's not yet known how the matter will be resolved but it could involve the sale of stock from the stores.
Speaking to RedFM News, Valerie Conlon from Debenhams on Patrick Street says she's optimistic following todays meeting:
"I didn't go on with many expectations because after the WRC we were just so disappointed, but I am a little bit more positive now, I feel that there is some kind of plan in place. He does realise how we were treated and he does realise it has to come to an end himself. He knows that it can't carry on like this."
