Exit Poll Indicates Surge In Support For The Green Party

The exit poll shows that FG's Deirdre Clune could be facing a battle to retain her seat in Ireland South

We begin our Election Coverage with some good news for the Green Party which appears to have seen a surge in support according to an exit poll for the local and European elections

It's on course to see a candidate elected in all three European constituencies - the poll predicts that support for Grace O'Sullivan stands at 12%
The big news from Ireland South according to the poll is that Fine Gael's Deirdre Clune will be facing a battle to retain her seat with her party colleague Sean Kelly expected to top the poll here and Fianna Fail's Billy Kelleher looks on course to take a seat here too

The exit poll also indicates that 87% have voted "Yes" in the Divorce Referendum which wold see requirements for requesting a divorce being eased

The sorting of votes begins at 9am with boxes being opened at count centres around the country

We begin our coverage this morning by taking a look at the national picture
