Expert says chronic homelessness in Cork could be tackled within a year

The comments come from international expert on homelessness Dr Sam Tsembris.
Chronic homelessness in Cork could be solved within a year.
That's according to American based expert on homelessness Dr Sam Tsembris who made the comments in advance of a seminar at Cork City Hall tomorrow morning, where he will outlines his ideas on tackling the issue in the city.
He was central in the development of the hugely successful Housing First approach to ending the problem - which the Cork Simon Housing Support team pioneered here with success.
In 2013, 34 people, most with a history of long term homelessness were housed in independent flats and high Support Housing , and one year on, an impressive 85% were still housed.
Dr. Tsembris says there are two groups of homeless people in the city; one as a result of low minimum wage and the cost of renting but speaking to RedFM News, he says challenges facing the other group are manageable.
