Families stress over waiting times for nursing home funds

Families are facing high levels of stress and worry over waiting times for nursing home funds. That's according to nursing home owners across the city who are seeing first hand the emotional upset and anxiety brought on the families trying to care for loved ones. "Fair Deal" is the current funding in place, whereby a person pays up to 80% of their income and 7.5% of their assets a year towards their care and the HSE pay the remainder Elderly people awaiting admission to a nursing home may be on a list for 3 months. This length of time has been deemed "unacceptable" and nursing homes are calling on the Minister of Health to intervene Speaking to RedFM News Jennifer Kennedy operations manager of The Powdermill nursing home in Ballincollig says that the government need to prioritize elderly care.
