There are fears that post-pandemic unemployment may reach levels not seen since the Great Recession of the 1980's

A new study by Social Justice Ireland shows the number of people out of work could exceed 390 thousand after the covid-19 crisis ends
It is also warning of a major explosion in youth unemployment.
SJI's Research and Policy Analyst Suzanne Rogers says the situation will be worse than what was seen after the financial crash:
"But it's worse than the last recession and what we would actually be going back to figures not saying since 1986 It's unprecedented I suppose, for most people's lifetime. This is based on the information that has been supplied to the CSO by people who have had their employment impacted, but that is this like this is, this will be worse than what's called now the Great Recession."
