Feul Poverty On The Rise

St Vincent de Paul says it spent over €10 million on helping people in fuel poverty last year - up from almost €4 million in 2008. That is almost a three-fold increase. The charity has told the Energy Action Conference in Dublin that the most used energy source in the home is electricity, followed by solid fuel, oil and gas. Head of Social Justice and Policy at the St Vincent de Paul John-Mark McCafferty said that they are encouraging as many people as possible to avail of the Pay As You Go meters.
