File being prepared on Cobh hit-and-run
Gardai are to prepare a file for the DPP after last night releasing without charge a man arrested for questioning about a hit and run in Cobh yesterday. A 52-year old mother of two was seriously injured when she was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop while out walking on Ballynoe Hill at around 8.30am. The woman was discovered by a paramedic and was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital, where her condition is described as serious. Gardai in Cobh launched an investigation and succeeded in identifying a suspect vehicle which may have been involved and later identified a possible driver of the vehicle. Gardai arrested a man in his 30s at an address in Cobh at around 5.30pm and brought him to Cobh Garda Station for questioning. Gardai also impounded a vehicle which is being forensically examined to establish if it was the vehicle involved in the hit and run. The man was arrested under road traffic legislation and was released just before midnight last night without charge. Gardai will now prepare a file on the matter for the DPP. This is the second hit and run in Cork in the space of four days and follows a separate and unrelated fatal incident in the city centre on Thursday.
