Final designs and costings for the Events Centre submitted to Government

Simon Coveney says there will now be a process of assessing the costings to ensure the State is getting full value for money

The Housing Minister has confirmed that the final designs and costings for the Events centre have been submitted to the Government

In February concern was expressed about the future of the Events Centre after city councillors were told by BAM contractors that an extra €12 million in public funding would be needed to complete the highly anticipated venue.

Internal design changes are being blamed for the increased cost as venue operators Live Nation say the size of the venue needs to be increased by 3,500 sq meters to make it commercially viable.

Speaking to RedFM News the Deputy Chief Executive of Cork City Council Pat Ledwidge says while the process has been slow, he believes it will be worth it in the end.
