Today marks the end of the centenary year and will be presided over by members of the Defence Forces.

Today will see the final event of the 1916 centenary celebrations.

This year, the Irish flag was formally raised and lowered every day at the GPO by members of the Defence Forces - who also distributed the tricolour to all primary schools in the country.

The Irish flag will be officially raised and lowered on Dublin's O'Connell Street for the final time this year in a special ceremony.

Minister with Responsibility for Defence Paul Kehoe says the past 12 months have been a great success.
