Flooding crisis to top the agenda at first Cabinet meeting of 2016

It comes amid calls for the redevelopment of sewer systems in Midleton which was badly hit by recent flooding.

The flooding crisis is expected to top the agenda of the first Cabinet meeting of 2016.

The Minister for the Environment is expected to seek an additional ten million euro to help worst hit communities.

It comes as the aftermath of sever flooding from Storm Frank is still being felt Leeside.

The Cork/Waterford Road between Castlemartyr and Killeagh is expected to remain closed until at least tomorrow. 

Midleton will be among the communites in Cork on standby tomorrow as further wet weather is forecast however Met Éireann says rainfall levels will be normal for this time of year. 

Calls are being made in the East Cork town for the redevelopment of sewers after the town was hit by flooding and many of the properties were contaminated with sewage. 

Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show Ken Horgan of Coakley's Mens Wear in Midelton says a lot of businesses are still closed and while damage was limited with flood barriers the real problem is the sewer systems in the town:
