Former director of the Gate Theatre apologises for misconduct

Michael Colgan has apologised to any person who he's hurt or who was made to feel upset.

He has written an article in the Sunday Independent to respond to allegations of inappropriate conduct.

In the article Michael Colgan says that through "misjudged behaviour" he caused upset to some of his co-workers and that he's truly sorry.

Mr. Colgan says that he knew he was not politically correct and that he often sacrificed proper conduct for a punchline.

He acknowledges that he could be too exacting as a boss and says realising that he caused distress to people he worked with has shocked him.

He says he thought he was liked by all staff.

Mr. Colgan thinks now people were laughing at his jokes because he was their boss and not because he was funny.

He adds that his behaviour should not be equated with sexual crimes.

He apologises to any person he's hurt and his friends as well as to the board of the Gate for any stress caused.
