A former Lord Mayor who was convicted of sexually assaulting his teenage granddaughter in 1996 has been likened to a street angel and a house devil by his son
John Murray's granddaughter Elaine broke her silence on the Neil Prendeville Show this morning after City Council came under fire after it passed a vote of condolence following his death on Saturday night.
Three years ago he was found guilty of sexually assaulting his then teenage granddaughter in 1996 and was jailed for 12 months, but released after nine.. He always maintained his innocence.
Fianna Fail's Sean Martin proposed the vote of condolence to John Murray's family which he said he did as a mark of respect for his children and wider family members but he was in no way condoning his actions.
