Former Lord Mayor guilty of sexually assaulting teenager

Cork's former Lord Mayor has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a teenage girl in the 1990s. John Murray has been remanded in custody until December 2nd when he will return to Cork Circuit Criminal Court to be sentenced. The 83-year old, with an address at Gregg Road, Cork city, pleaded not guilty to six counts of sexually assaulting a teenage girl between 1996 and 1998. Mr Murray, who was Lord Mayor of Cork in 1993, was on trial at Cork Circuit Criminal Court for the past four days. Earlier today the jury of five women and seven men returned a unanimous guilty verdict on one of the charges which related to an incident in his car on a public street in the city. Just before five o'clock this evening they came back with guilty verdicts for four more charges and not guilty for one.
