Free GP care for under 6's expected from mid July

Children under 6 should be able to visit GPs for free from the middle of July. The government has agreed a deal with GPs to deliver the service - although not all doctors will take part. The National Association of General Practitioners says it'll be taking the time to study the agreement in detail before issuing a full statement. In the meantime, they've said that GPs "will not support a scheme which compounds the appalling inequities of our dysfunctional health system." Junior minister Kathleen Lynch says she hopes all GPs will sign up - but says the Department expects around one-in-five to stay out. But she says there'll be no upfront fees for parents who want to bring their child to a doctor. Click the PLAY button above to hear.
