Abbey Murphy's plight was raised on Cork's RedFM and listeners raised €22,000 in just 60 minutes for her

Funding has finally been approved for a seriously ill Cork girl whose grandmother shared her plight on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM yesterday.

7 year old Abbey Murphy, was born with a diaphragmatic hernia and despite several surgeries her bowel doesn't work properly.

She qualified for funding under the Treatment Abroad Fund in order to have tests carried out in London's Great Ormond Street hospital however yesterday her family were told that as the consultant is conducting the tests privately, the funding was being withdrawn.

Her grandmother raised their plight on the Neil Prendeville Show and through the generosity of listeners €22,000 was pledged in just 60 minutes to ensure the family could travel and the treatment covered.

This evening, just minutes ahead of Cork's RedFM transferring the funds raised, the Health Minister confirmed that the funding for Abbey has been approved and her treatment covered

Speaking to RedFM news Abbey's Grandmother Kathleen Weir says they're very grateful and hugely relieved
