Garda Commissioner to meet Garda representative bodies today ahead of planned protest in Cork City

The demonstration by The People's Convention on Saturday is calling for an end to lockdown.
It follows last weekends anti-lockdown protest in Dublin where a number of Gardaí were injured and 13 people have appeared in court following the violence.
Meanwhile a man in his 30s remains in custody this morning over a firework attack on officers at the protest.
The organisers of this weekends protest say they have made every effort to ensure there is no violence.
Former Garda Sergeant, Christy Galligan, says the protest this weekend will be cause for concern, however:
"When you have explosive materials like we had fired against members of the Gardaí last weekend, then that's a really serious and worrying trend, and it should be condemned by everybody including those who come out to protest. This type of violence against Gardaí- frontline workers- cannot and should not be tolerated."
