Garda Investigation Underway After Sculpture Vandalised In West Cork

Gardai in West Cork are investigating have a sculpture commemorating the local fishing community in Schull was destroyed by vandals.

The sculpture was ripped off its plinth on Wednesday and left smashed in pieces on the ground and cans of alcohol were strewn around it

 

Schull attracts a large number of visitors over the summer months and locals say gatherings around the pier are not unusual however a large number of people began drinking in the area on Wednesday night and the area was left strewn with smashed bottles and the sculpture was targeted and destroyed

 

It's not known at this stage who was responsible for the damage however calls have been made for extra Gardai to be deployed in the area.
