An elderly woman is fighting for her life after she was found lying in a stream outside Rylane village just before 7 o'clock this morning

The woman who is aged between 60 and 70 years old was badly injured and was spotted at Annagannihy Bridge on the road which leads to Macroom and Millstreet.

She was spotted because her hand was stretched out onto the road, at a bridge known locally as the Ivy Bridge, by a man passing in a car.

The driver stopped and raised the alarm and the woman was rushed to hospital where she is currently being assessed and treated.

The scene has been sealed off by gardaí as they investigate the circumstances of her injuries.
