Garda station evacuated after delivery of pipebomb
A garda station in Cork city was evacuated yesterday evening after a pipe bomb was inadvertently brought onto the premises. At around 5pm yesterday evening a man arrived at the Gurranebraher Garda Station with a viable pipe bomb in the boot of his car. The man in his 30s was alerted by a group of children who had found the device while playing on a communal area at Churchfield Avenue on the city's northside. It is believed the children passed the pipebomb around before alerting their parents. When a member of the garda realisd what the bomb was the station was immediately evacuated and the army bomb disposal team who raced to the scene and examined the device. The device was made safe and sent to Dublin for for analysis. An investigation has now been launched and gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact Gurranabrahar Garda Station.
