Gardai appeal for witnesses following assault of teenagers

Two teenagers were attacked in Wilton over the weekend. 

The Irish Examiner reports that the teenagers, aged 15 and 16, were walking through the Wilton Court Housing estate on their return from Wilton Shopping Centre when they were met by a group of up to 30 other teeanagers. 

They were attacked an one of the victims was stabbed in the side and as a result his kidney was punctured. 

The other teenager was attacked with a bat and required several stitches to head after being hit with a bat. 

The victims made their way to a nearby friends house and an adult drove them to Cork University Hospital where gardaí were alerted to the incident. 

Gardaí say the attack was unprovoked and are now examining CCTV footage in a bid to trace the gang. They're asking anyone with any information to contact Togher Garda Station on 021-494 7120 or Bishopstown Garda Station on 021-462 4500.

Elsewhere two men have been questioned in relation to an alleged assault on a man in his 60s in a Rathcooney Cemetery after a suspected hijacking. 

Meanwhile gardaí are hunting for two youth after a man in his 60s was attacked with a hammer outside his home in Ballyvolane on Saturday. 

It's understood his confronted the teenagers who were interfering with his car.
