Gardaí Continue To Investigate Fatal Shooting In Macroom

Gardaí are investigating whether the shooting of 58 year old Derry Coakley was triggered by a row over the dumping of building material on a farm
The victim was shot at a farm 3 miles outside the town in Raleigh North at around 11:30 Tuesday night
Gardaí have established that he delivered a load of building rubble to the farm where he was confronted by the landowner and at least one shot was fired
The body remained at the scene until late yesterday and was removed to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem will take place this morning.
The man arrested in connection with the investigation remains in custody at Bandon Garda station
This latest death has left locals in the town reeling
Peggy O'Callaghan, who knew Derry Coakley well, told RedFM News that he will be missed
