Gardai Hope to Interview Greaney Sisters Following Cobh Murder Suicide

Gardai in Cobh investigating a murder suicide where a father of two fatally injured his wife before taking his own life are hoping to interview the couple’s two daughters to try and piece together the sequence of events which led to the tragedy. Detectives hope to speak to both Michelle and Sarah Greaney over the coming days when they are deemed well enough by doctors. 21 year old Michelle was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery and although her condition was initially described as critical, she improved yesterday and spoke briefly to Gardai. It’s expected that the sisters will not make formal statements until after their parents are buried. It's emerged that Michael Greaney had been released from the Central Mental Hospital in Dublin in November and returned to the family home in Cobh and was said to be in good form over Christmas. Meanwhile Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Margaret Bolster yesterday concluded post-mortem examinations on both Mr and Ms Greaney at Cork University Hospital. Gardai said they were not releasing the results of the post-mortem examinations for operational reasons but newspaper reports say that Ms Greaney suffered a number of stab wounds while Mr Greaney also suffered a stab wound to the chest.
