Gardai in Cork launch a Murder Investigation following results of post mortem

Gardai have begun a murder investigation following a post mortem examination at Cork University Hospital on a woman found on the Northside of the City.

39 year old Nicola Collins was found with serious injuries at an apartment on Pophams Road in Farranree at 3.30am.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and Gardai arrested a 42 year old man believed to be from Charleville, where he was taken to Mayfield Garda Station for questioning.

A post mortem at CUH revealed Nicola Collins had died a violent death, and Gardai formally upgraded their inquiry to a full murder investigation.
