Gardai Investigate Arson Attack in Mallow

Gardai are investigating an arson attack in Mallow. A man and a woman received burns to their arms and faces when petrol was squirted through the letterbox of a house and set alight in the early hours of Sunday morning. The man and woman - who are both in their 30s - were rushed to Cork University Hospital for treatment. It's believed that petrol was squirted through the letterbox using a washing-up liquid bottle. The front door and the hallway carpet caught fire - when the couple opened the door to extinguish the flames a man was still standing outside. A row broke out and the man assaulted the pair. Gardai believe the attack was carried out by a person with a grudge against the couple and they're anxious to speak to a man in his 40s to help with their investigation.
