Gardai Investigate Attempted Raid On Mayfield Post Office
Gardai are on the hunt for a man after a post office was raided in Mayfield this afternoon.
The man entered the premises on Kerry Road, just off the Old Youghal Road, at about 2.20 this afternoon armed with a knife and with his face covered, unaware that the post office was officially closed at the time, and that the only people in the building were cleaning staff.
When told that there was no money on the premises, the man fled the scene empty handed in a dark coloured ford Fiesta, which was then found burned out not long afterwards in nearby Murmount Court - that has been seized by Gardai for a technical examination.
Nobody was injured in the incident, and Gardai are examining CCTV footage from the post office.
The man is described as being 5ft 8" inches in height, wearing sunglasses, grey tracksuit bottoms and a dark coloured hoodie.
Gardai in Mayfield are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anyone with information to contact them on 021 4558510.
