Gardaí Preparing File for DPP in Relation to North Cork Fatal Assault
Gardai are to prepare a file for the DPP after last night releasing without charge a man arrested for questioning in connection with a fatal assault in North Cork last month.
Detectives arrested the man, who is in his late 20s, at an address in Kanturk at around 9am yesterday morning in relation to the assault on Finbarr Lehane which happened outside a pub in the town.
He was questioned about the assault on the 65-year-old until late last night when he was released without charge and a file will now be prepared on the matter for the DPP, said a garda spokesman.
Mr Lehane from Banteer lost his battle for life at Cork University Hospital on November 7th some two weeks after the incident.
Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Margaret Bolster subsequently carried out a post-mortem on the body of Mr Lehane who suffered serious head injuries in the assault outside the pub.
Gardaí are continuining their investigations.
