Gardaí Record Rise In Drink Driving Across The City This Year

While traffic volumes have been impacted by restrictions to curb the spread of Covid-19, drink driving remains an ongoing problem in the city.
Drunkeness offences, public order offences and instances of criminal damage have all reduced over the past year, according to the latest stats from the Joint Policing Committee
Instances of drink driving rose between January and October of this year when compared to 2019.
The number of cases in the Cork North West division remained the same however there was a drop however in the Cork West division - 173 instances were recorded this year, compared to 227 in the same period in 2019.
All categories of assault have seen a reduction across Cork while theft is also on the decline with the exception of theft of bicycles and from shops.
Property crime, and crimes against the person have also reduced this year.
RedFM News reported last week that there had been an increase in drug detections across Cork however Gardaí told RedFM News they attribute some of their success to the launch of Operation Tara in April which saw a district drugs unit has been set up in Anglesea St, Togher, Gurranabraher and Mayfield.
