Government Appear To Be Preparing Referendum On Abortion

The Government appears to be preparing for a 2018 referendum on abortion.

The Tanaiste Frances Fitzgerald and the Social Protection Minister Leo Varadkar say a vote should happen next year.

It follows an overwhelming vote by the Citizens Assembly in favour of replacing the Eighth Amendment.

The Assembly chairperson Ms Justice Laffoy is compiling a report that will be considered by an all-party Oireachtas committee.
