Government Criticised For Not Implementing Changes To Fair Deal Scheme Two Years Ago
Public Representatives in Cork called for changes to the Fair Deal Scheme up to two years ago in an effort to ease the ongoing homeless crisis.
That's according to Councillor Thomas Gould who has criticised the Government for being too slow to implement changes that could go a long way towards solving the crisis Leeside.
Latest figures show there are currently 61 families homeless across the city and county, with 165 children currently living in emergency accommodation.
Earlier today Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy announced a measure to encourage elderly people living in nursing homes to rent out their property, which could free up hundreds of homes across Cork.
Speaking to RedFM News Councillor Thomas Gould says the Government is not reacting fast enough as hundreds of properites lie vacant across the city:
