Government Defends Plans For Income Tax Cuts In Budget

The government has defended its' plans to give some form of income tax cut in the budget, saying it is not a return to auction politics.

The accusation was made in the Dail by Sinn Fein who claimed it's perverse to cut income tax when 3,000 children are homeless and 687-thousand people are on hospital waiting lists.

Tanaiste Francis Fitzgerald said more money is being diverted to tackle those problems but workers also need a break;
