Government monitor Delta variant ahead of further reopening says Taoiseach

The Taoiseach says the Government is monitoring the Delta variant ahead of the further reopening of the country in July.

Cabinet is due to sign off on new travel restrictions for passengers arriving from Britain amid concerns about a growing number of cases of the variant there.

People travelling from the UK will need to quarantine at home for 10 days now instead of 5 and two negative PCR tests will need to be produced.

Micheál Martin says it’s too early to say if the variant will impact on the further easing of restrictions.

"We'll continue to monitor this, and it's early days yet. It's so far so good in terms of reopening.

"We have to keep our eye on variants, particularly the Delta variant, and we will continue to engage with public health on the matter."
