Government Needs To Re-Imagine Country's Rent Regulation Before End Of Year

That's according to Threshold, who say rising rents across Cork show that the Rent Pressure Zones didn't help to control the situation, as the legislation wasn't enforced
The current legislation is due to expire later this year with rents in the city now hitting nearly €1,500 a month, while in the counTy, rents have jumped by nearly 9%.
Speaking to RedFM News, Edel Conlon of Threshold, is calling for clarity on what measures will be introduced to bring rents down.
"Long term there needs to be change. So we can see that the rent pressure zones aren't working nationally. And these are due to expire in December so we need to reimagine what our rent regulation is going to look like . There have to be steps taken to bring the rent down, not just to leave them as they are, and to put a cap on increases per annum, as is the case now. We need to get rent down in order to facilitate young people across the city and county, to be able to access the home that they want to access in the future."
