Apple employs over 6,000 people in Cork
The Finance Minister has confirmed around 1.5 billion euro has been collected today out of the 13 billion the EU's ordered the tech giant to pay.
It's currently being held in an Escrow Fund, meaning the government can't spend the money yet.
They appealed against the decision of the European Commission, who ruled Apple has had an unfair advantage because of its tax treatment here.
The rest of the back taxes are due to be collected by late autumn.
Apple employs over 6,000 people in Cork and has it's European headquarters in Hollyhill on the northside of the city
