Cork Is Set To Be One Of The Biggest Beneficiaries Under The Ireland 2040 plan
The government is to launch its €115 billion 'Ireland 2040' plan in Sligo later today
Cork is set to be one of the big beneficiaries of the plan with a new hospital, major road networks, arts and events funding - including a financial injection into the stalled Events Centre
€250 million is expected to be spent on Cork hospitals including a new dental hospital for UCC and a new ambulance base for Cork along with the upgrading of fleets
On the connectivity front the Cork Limerick M20 motorway is expected to benefit along with the long awaited Macroom bypass
The cabinet is holding a special meeting in Sligo this morning to approve the plan before the launch this afternoon.
Communications Minister Denis Naughten says despite criticism, he's happy the plan will be good for rural Ireland:
