Government yet to make a decision on replacement vessel in the Mediterranean

The LE Niamh is due to return in October.
The Government has yet to decide if a replacement ship will be sent out to the Mediterranean to assist in the operation to save migrants attempting to get into Europe.
The crew of the LE Niamh are set to return home on October 2nd unless the vessel is involved in an urgent, last minute operation.
Since leaving Haulbowline on July 10, the LÉ Niamh has saved 1,772 migrants and helped to transfer many more rescued people - between other humanitarian vessels operating in the Mediterranean Sea.
The LE Samuel Beckett may be required to replace the LE Niamh in October but speaking to RedFM News Marine Minister Simon Coveney says no firm decision has been made yet.
