GPs say they’re seriously concerned at the undermining of the Cervical Check programme

They say that it could result in fewer women getting smear tests.
Doctors in the Irish Medical Organisation say there has been a lack of clear explanations regarding the pros and cons around screening programmes.
The IMO says it’s agreed a programme for women with concerns to visit their GPs and if required, organise for a repeat smear test.
Blackpool based Dr John Sheehan says his practice has seen a doubling in the number of women presenting for smear tests in the past fortnight
Speaking to RedFM News Dr Sheehan says while he believes confidence in CervicalCheck needs to be re-built he is encouraging women who are concerned to talk to their GP.
