Health Minister Urges Restaurants To Introduce Calorie Counts On Menus
The Health Minister says asking restaurants to publish calorie counts on their menus isn't a step towards a "nanny state" - but he isn't ruling out making it mandatory in the future. James Reilly was speaking at the launch of the Food Safety Authority's MenuCal - a free online tool to help restaurants present calorie counts to their customers. The Restaurants Association of Ireland is against the scheme - it says adding nutritional information on their menus will cost every member 5-thousand euro every year.
