HIQA Finds Evidence Of Non-Compliance At Two Cork Nursing Homes

Evidence of good practice and compliance with the regulations and standards was found in eight centres


The Health Information and Quality Authority has published 15 inspection reports on residential centres for older people. 

HIQA independently monitors designated centres for older people for compliance with the Health Act Regulations and the National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People  to ensure that the older people living in nursing homes are safe and well looked after.

Evidence of good practice and compliance with the regulations and standards was found in eight centres. 

Seven inspections found evidence of non-compliance with two of those inspections conducted in Cork.. 

An issue of major non-compliance was indentified in the recruitment, garda vetting and maintenance of staff files at Rochestown Nursing Home which the home is currently addressing 

At Nazerth House in Dromahane which cares for 78 residents the building which the home is in was found to be majorly non compliant in the area of safe and suitable premises. 

The nursing home say planning permission which allows for the construction of a new home was received last year with the building work to be completed by July next year
