Hopes for Ireland to be tobacco free by 2025
The Chairman of Ash Ireland says plans to ban cigarette vending machines will have to get the green light for a tobacco free Ireland
The Chairman of Ash Ireland says if Ireland is to be made tobacco free by 2025 plans to ban cigarette vending machines will have to get the green light.
6,000 deaths are caused every year by tobacco and the group say while progress has been made 19% of adults still smoke regularly.
The Irish Cigarette Machine Operators Association says that 145 jobs are at risk nationwide as there are around 6,000 cigarette machines in pubs, nightclubs and hotels around the country.
However it's hoped that by 2025 only 5% of adults still smoke regualrly, something which ASH Ireland says is achievable.
Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM Chairman of ASH Ireland Dr Patrick Doorley outlined some of the costs of tobacco to society.
