Housing estate in Granard, Longford re-opens after a security alert this afternoon
The Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit have removed a device from the garden of a home in the town after Gardai sealed off the area this morning.
Emergency services were alerted after Gardai were told a device, believed to be similar to a pipe bomb, was discovered in the area just after 11am.
The EOD unit arrived at the scene shortly after 1pm and deployed a special robot to assess the device.
The Defence Forces have now left the area with the device for further examination.
