Housing Minister aiming to have legislation on water charges by the summer

A bill that reflects the agreement at the Oireachtas Water Committee is likely to be ready in 6 weeks
Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Simon Coveney said he hopes to have legislation for the scrapping of water charges before the summer break-up.
Meanwhile, the government announced plans to build 50,000 new houses on public land today.
The plan includes social housing as well as Public Private Partnership ventures.
Launching it this afternoon, Minister Coveney said it was important that social housing and private housing were mixed together so as not to repeat housing mistakes of the past.
