Housing Minister: Rental Prices Published Should Be Prices That Are Sought

Some landlords have been accused of leaving luxury apartments vacant, as opposed to renting them at a reduced rate

A complaint to the Competition Commission about the matter was not upheld.

The Commission believes these funds don't own enough property to distort the market.

But Minister Darragh O'Brien says whatever is on the price tag should be the true cost:

"I'm working on some reforms in the rental sector in relation to how we can make sure that rents that are published are the true rents that are being sought. Vacant properties should be brought back into stock and back into use. We have seen a couple of instances in particular, of corporate landlords have effectively left units vacant, instead of renting them for a lower amount, and I'm looking at measures to address that at the moment."
