HSE refute staff shortage levels in Cork University Hospital

Patient safety issues have been raised by nurses at Cork University Hospital due to staff shortages.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation have claimed there are currently 78 vacant posts at the hospital and that nurses are working longer shifts and not taking breaks to compensate.

Their fears have led to calls from the INMO on hospital management to consider curtailing routine admissions..

The HSE has released a statement refuting the claims and say there are only 48 vacent posts and CUH managment are actively recruiting to fill them.

Speaking to RedFM News Mary Rose Carroll of the INMO says no-one knows when the positions will be filled so a plan has to be drawn up to manage the current situation safely..
