HSE Working To Reform Visa Restrictions For Foreign Doctors Working In Southdoc
Under current working conditions doctors from outside Europe are only issued with 90 day visas which is impacting on staffing levels and their call out service to patients
The Echo reports that the HSE has entered talks with the Immigration Service in an effort to resolve the issue which has led to concerns that some patients will go without assessment due to a lack of doctors.
The situation is also adding pressure on already overloaded hospital emergency departments as patients are being forced to present at ED's
The issue has been raised in the past by SouthDoc Medical Director Dr Gary Stack who told RedFM News that patients will be adversely hit unless visa restrictions are addressed:
