Increase in amount of drugs seized in mail centres
Nearly four times as many drugs were seized in Ireland's mail centres last year as in 2018.
In 2018, €2.6m of seizures were made by Revenue - but this rose to over €9.7m last year.
By far the largest amount was in Portlaoise Mail Centre, according to freedom of information files.
Security analyst Declan Power believes there's a number of reasons for the sharp rise in the amount of drugs being posted.
"The increase might indicate that you have smaller criminal groups maybe trying to bring in prescription drugs or drugs of that nature for sale.
"It also perhaps indicates that there is a greater awareness by law enforcement, and their levels of investigation, detention and apprehension have increased as well."
